Bathroom resealing in Bigton

Can I do it myself?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Bathroom resealing in Bigton

Homes in Bigton have the same weak spots as anywhere else: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and mouldy sealant that has gone black.

For a place like Bigton, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Landlord and commercial work in Bigton

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

How the job changes by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone won’t last. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, and our work is on the visible joints only.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Bigton

Bigton is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In and around Bigton, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms

What we do, step by step

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. The job generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Advice

Bigton: your questions answered

Is bathroom resealing in Bigton guaranteed?

All our work, in Bigton and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Bigton in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Bigton is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Is white the only colour available?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Should I try DIY first?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Bigton.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • The address or postcode of the job

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we are called out for in Bigton

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray

If you live in an older home near St Ninian's Church And Gatepiers, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What to look for in a quote

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether they’re fully insured
