The process
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers from start to finish. Outside jobs in Back need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

What the job involves on each surface
Basins & vanity units
Basins take less water than showers, but the joint behind them is splashed every day. Old sealant there often goes black at the corners, so it’s cut out and renewed just like a bath joint.
Baths
Acrylic baths flex the most, and even steel and cast iron baths settle slightly when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.
Back questions
Is Back within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Back?
All our work, in Back and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Where do you work from?
Our base is Crawley. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. We work for householders, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels.
Are you insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
When can I use the bath or shower again?
We give you the cure time before we leave, and it’s usually around 24 hours. Using it sooner can damage the bead.
Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?
Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.
Does someone need to be in?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
When something else is needed
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
- A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
- Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we seal
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Basins & vanity units
- Baths
- Sinks & splashbacks
Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.
A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.
What else we do in Back
Bathroom resealing in Back: local notes
Back is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
For jobs in and around Back, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Why it’s worth doing now in Back
Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. Cutting it out and resealing with anti-fungal silicone is the fix that lasts. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What we are called out for in Back
Silicone does not last for ever. Daily water, heat and cleaning products slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
Around Back, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What to look for in a quote
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Are they insured?
- What product goes in the joint
- Who turns up on the day
