Knock Bathroom Resealing
We cover Knock for bath, shower, basin, wet room, worktop and sink resealing. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a one-year guarantee.
- Damp behind the bath or under the tray
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Knock
Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. Common call-outs are for water getting behind the kitchen upstand and water getting behind the bath panel, across shower trays & enclosures, sinks & splashbacks and baths.
For a place like Knock, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What we are called out for in Knock
A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.
Common reasons people contact us include:
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
In and around Knock, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
FAQs for Knock
Is bathroom resealing in Knock guaranteed?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Is Knock within the area you cover?
Yes, Knock is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Knock?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. All the old sealant comes out first.
How the visit works
On the day, we look over the joints with you first. We protect the surfaces around the joints before we start. The work generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. For a place like Knock, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
- We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.
Preparing for the visit
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

How we quote for bathroom resealing
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- The product the joint needs
- How easy the joints are to reach
- How many areas need sealing
- The size of the job
Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
Asking for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The problem you’ve noticed
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.
Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.
Small signs come before a leak: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
When something else is needed
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What the job involves on each surface
Baths
Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.
Shower trays & enclosures
A tray that rocks will split any sealant. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.
Bathroom resealing around Knock
Knock is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
For jobs in and around Knock, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.
