Your questions about bathroom resealing in Alloa

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Alloa station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Alloa?

Yes, hotels and guest houses are among the places we work. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Will there be a smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Do you come to Alloa?

Yes, we do. Our applicators work in Alloa.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

Will it make a mess?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Bathroom resealing in Alloa, done properly

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, finished smooth so water drains away rather than collecting. We work on wet rooms, sinks & splashbacks and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are damp behind the bath or under the tray and a reseal done over the top of the old bead.

In a town like Alloa, stone-built older streets generally sit alongside harled houses and newer estates. Bathrooms and kitchens across all of them need their sealant and grout renewing from time to time.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. In Alloa, wind and rain soon get through failed outside joints. Inside, a failed seal around a bath or shower lets water into floors and ceilings.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms

How it works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. A visit in Alloa needs three things planned: access, parking and where the work is. Outside work depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The type of sealant required
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
