FAQs for Rutherglen
Will you come out to Rutherglen?
Yes. Rutherglen is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is Rutherglen in your area for window mastic?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Rutherglen is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Will new mastic stop draughts?
In many cases. The gap between frame and wall is a common source of draughts, and resealing inside and out closes it.
Should I try DIY first?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
When is the sealant fully cured?
That depends on the sealant used, so follow the cure time we give you when we finish.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Can you reach windows above the ground floor?
Yes, where it’s safe. For high or awkward windows, we will tell you what access is needed.
About our window mastic in Rutherglen
Whether it’s one leaking patio door or every frame on the house, the work is priced before anything is done. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us how many frames there are and how they’re reached. Common call-outs are for sealant in the wrong colour for the frame and cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame, across uPVC windows, patio & French doors and composite doors.
In and around a place like Rutherglen, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Wind-driven rain finds any gap around a frame or sill.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When to call us in Rutherglen
Some failures date back to when the windows were fitted. Sealant run over dust, wet brick or loose mortar never bonded as it should, so it comes away long before its time.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Damp patches on the reveal after heavy rain
- Gaps left after new windows were fitted
- White mastic on grey or black frames
- Gaps where the sill meets the wall
Rented homes near Rutherglen station change hands often, and sound mastic around windows and doors keeps out the draughts and damp that tenants notice first.
Questions to ask before you book

Landlord and commercial work in Rutherglen
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can go on one quote.
We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.
How the visit works
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The work normally takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- We start by checking each window and door with you.
- We remove the old mastic and clean the frame and the wall.
- Deep gaps are filled with backing rod to set the depth.
- We apply a weatherproof sealant to match the frame and tool it neatly.
- Finally we tidy up and check each joint.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
How to get a quote

Windows and doors in Rutherglen
Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Rutherglen is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for the mastic around window and door frames to keep out.
In the older streets around Stonelaw Parish Church, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame. If you look after a building such as Stonelaw High School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

When something else is needed
It helps to know what we can’t do too:
- Faulty window hardware
- Draughts through the window seals rather than the frame
- A failed sealed unit that has misted up
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Timber windows & doors
- Composite doors
- Aluminium frames
- Patio & French doors
- uPVC windows
- Window sills
Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Keep paint and stain on wooden frames in good order
- Clear any debris from frame drain holes
- Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
- Keep paint off silicone joints
On timber frames, keep the paintwork in good order, because bare, wet timber moves more and pulls at the joint. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.
On timber windows, water behind the joint can lead to rot. Once wood has rotted, it needs repair before it can be sealed, so early resealing is worth it.

DIY versus a professional finish
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
How we quote for window mastic
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- When we can work, for business premises
- The type of sealant required
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The size of the job
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.
Helping us quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- The type of property
- If someone has resealed it before
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- The rough size of the job
Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand.
