How we quote for window mastic

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Access and height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The rough size of the job
  • The type of property
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

About our window mastic in Macedonia

Around Macedonia we seal all kinds of frames: uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite, along with patio doors, French doors and sills. Each gets a sealant chosen for the frame and the wall it meets. We work on patio & French doors, uPVC windows and window sills, and the jobs we see most are water coming in at the bottom corners of a door and rushed sealant from a window installation.

Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

How it works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. Outdoor work around Macedonia depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First we look at every frame and agree the list.
  2. We remove the old mastic and clean the frame and the wall.
  3. We fit backing rod in deep gaps so the sealant is the right depth.
  4. We apply a weatherproof sealant to match the frame and tool it neatly.
  5. Finally we tidy up and check each joint.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

Windows and doors in Macedonia

Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Glenwood High School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s. For landlords with property near Markinch station, sound mastic around windows and doors keeps out the draughts and damp that tenants notice first. For an older house near a landmark such as Old Anti Burgher Kirk, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

How the job changes by surface

Window sills

Masonry sills can have joints where water gets in, including the one between the sill and the frame above. We seal those with a sealant suited to masonry.

Aluminium frames

Bi-fold and sliding aluminium doors have long frame joints, and the bottom joint sees the most water. We prepare and reseal every joint, backing the deep ones.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Don’t paint over the silicone
  • Ventilate rooms so frames don’t stay wet inside
  • Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
  • Keep paint and stain on wooden frames in good order

A yearly look round the frames is enough. Cracks and lifting edges are easy to spot early.

Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but resealing works best in dry conditions. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.

Landlord and commercial work in Macedonia

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. Several properties can be quoted together.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Rotten timber, which needs a joiner first
  • Faulty window hardware
  • Damp problems in the wall away from the window

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Yes. We are fully insured.

What do you put in the joint?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you match the sealant to my frames?

Yes, we choose a colour to suit the frame. Grey and black frames get grey or black sealant, and wood-effect frames usually suit brown.
