Macedonia Sand Mastic
Problem with your window and door surrounds in Macedonia? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant.
- Mastic worn away on windows facing the weather
- Patchy fillers round a sash window
- Gaps round a timber door in stone or brick
About our sand mastic in Macedonia
Sand mastic is the traditional way to point the gap between a timber window frame and the stone or brick around it. It’s a mix of sand and a linseed-oil-based binder, applied by hand. On older homes, it suits the building far better than silicone. Typical jobs include patchy fillers round a sash window and failed mastic on an exposed elevation, on brick reveals, tenement windows and sash and case windows.
Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Macedonia is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What happens if it’s left?
New mastic over crumbling mastic won’t hold. We remove the loose material first so the new work lasts. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Should I try it myself first?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
How the job changes by surface
Brick reveals
Loose mastic comes out and deep gaps are packed before pointing.
Period and listed homes
Period homes look their best with traditional materials, and sand mastic is one of them.
For landlords and businesses
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.
Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.
The process
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours per window, depending on the condition of the joints and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere like Macedonia may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- Each surround is checked first.
- The joint is raked out and cleaned.
- We fill deep gaps so the new mastic is not too thick.
- New sand mastic is applied and shaped by hand.
- We finish the mastic to a tidy line.
How to prepare
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Keep children and pets away from the work area

Quotes for sand mastic in Macedonia
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- The number and length of the joints
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Which sealant suits the joint
- How easy the joints are to reach
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.
Helping us quote
You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- The rough size of the job
- Whether it has been sealed before
- How we’d reach the joints
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that is easy.
Signs you need sand mastic in Macedonia
Sand mastic slowly weathers. It dries out, cracks and loses its grip from the frame or the masonry.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Silicone on a period window that looks wrong
- Cement or filler used on old window joints that has cracked
- Wind and rain getting in round a sash window
- Weathered mastic on the most exposed windows
Schools such as Glenwood High School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.
Questions to ask before booking
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first

Questions from Macedonia
I let a flat near Markinch station. Can you help?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.
Will you come out to Macedonia?
Yes, Macedonia is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we’re using.

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. Working times can be discussed when we quote.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.
What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and the location. We will ask anything else we need to know.
Is consent needed for window work on a listed home?
Checking first is sensible. Your local planning authority can say if consent is needed for listed or conservation-area properties.
Are you insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
What sand mastic looks like in Macedonia
Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
Rented homes near Markinch station change hands often, and any sash windows need sound mastic to keep draughts and rain out. If you live in an older home near Old Anti Burgher Kirk, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.
