About our window mastic in Gargunnock
Behind a thin line of old mastic there’s sometimes a deep void. Filling it with sealant alone leaves a joint that cannot move properly, so we fit backing rod to set the right depth. The sealant then grips the two sides it should. Common call-outs are for gaps between the frame and the inside reveal and old mastic that has gone black or come away, on window sills, composite doors and uPVC windows.
In and around a place like Gargunnock, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Wind-driven rain finds any gap around a frame or sill.
All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.
Surface by surface
Composite doors
Front doors take the weather head on. Those corners get the most care.
Timber windows & doors
On period timber windows, traditional sand mastic is sometimes the better choice. We can talk through the options.
Questions from Gargunnock
Do you cover smaller places like Gargunnock?
Yes, Gargunnock is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is Gargunnock in your area for window mastic?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Gargunnock is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Can new window sealant be painted?
Not if it’s silicone. We choose the product with your decorating in mind, so mention it when you book.
Do you work on first-floor windows?
Yes, if safe access is possible. For high or awkward windows, we’ll tell you what access is needed.
How long should I leave it?
Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We’ll give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.
Which products do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.
Do I have to be there?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Why it’s worth doing now in Gargunnock
Failed mastic isn’t a reason to replace sound windows. If the frames and glass are in good order, resealing the joints is often all that is needed. Problems with the glass or gaskets are for a window company, and we’ll say so. In an older home around Gargunnock, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.
Why us?
- Every job guaranteed for a year
- A choice of colours where the product allows
- Tidy, careful work
- We are fully insured
Can I do it myself?
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Frames and glazing around Gargunnock
Gargunnock is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for the mastic around window and door frames to keep out. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
In the older streets around Parish Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.

Signs you need window mastic in Gargunnock
Older frames were often sealed with products that set hard. Once it’s rigid, every bit of frame movement pulls at it, leaving a hairline gap down one side.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Mastic that’s falling out in pieces
- Leaking joints at the ends of sills
- Cold air getting in at the frame edge
- White mastic on grey or black frames
In and around Gargunnock, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether VAT is included
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
What sealant work cannot fix
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- A frame that has rotted at the joint
- Penetrating damp from a failed cavity tray or render
- A failed sealed unit that has misted up
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

How it works
At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are, depending on the amount of work. Outdoor work around Gargunnock depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.
- We check how each frame can be reached safely.
- Old, cracked mastic is removed completely.
- Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing, and primed where the sealant calls for it.
- Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
- We tool the joint so water runs off, then clear up.
How to prepare
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Mention any tricky access
- Tell us if parking is tricky
