Window mastic in Foveran
If you can feel air around a shut window, the gap is often at the frame. Resealing that joint can make a room feel noticeably less draughty and quietens the whistle on windy days. Where the air is getting in through the window itself, we’ll say so. We work on uPVC windows, window sills and aluminium frames, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked sealant at the sill ends and untidy mastic left by window fitters.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Aberdeenshire.

What we can’t put right
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
- Faulty window hardware
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Foveran questions
Will you come out to Foveran?
Yes, Foveran is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Does the coastal weather in Foveran affect outside sealant?
Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Can you seal the gap between the frame and the plaster indoors?
Yes. Inside, the joint between frame and plaster is sealed neatly.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.
How long will my window job take?
That depends on the number of frames, how they’re reached and the state of the old mastic. You’ll know the timing when we quote.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we’re fully insured.
What we do, step by step
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house, and the area is left clean. Outdoor work around Foveran depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We check how each frame can be reached safely.
- All the failed sealant is cut away, along with any loose debris.
- Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing.
- Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
- We tool the joint so water runs off, then clear up.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
Getting a quote
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Advice
Looking after it afterwards
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Avoid blasting the frames with a pressure washer
- Repaint timber before it’s bare
- Clear any debris from frame drain holes
- Ventilate rooms so frames do not stay wet inside
Have a look at the joints once a year, ideally after winter. Small splits are simple to catch before they leak.
Water gets in quietly when mastic fails. You might not see it until plaster blows or a damp patch appears inside. Early resealing stops it reaching that point.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Foveran
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

What affects the quote in Foveran
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- When we can work, for business premises
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The number and length of the joints
- How many areas need sealing
Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
What to tell us for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Roughly how big the job is
To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.
Do you need window mastic in Foveran?
Every frame moves through the day. A plastic or aluminium frame lengthens in sunshine and shortens as it cools, while the masonry beside it stays put. A sealant that can’t keep up eventually tears.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Whistling draughts around closed windows
- White mastic on grey or black frames
- Rain getting in at the frame or under the sill
- Leaking joints at the ends of sills
If you live in an older home near Foveran Parish Church, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.
Before booking anyone

- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- What the cure time is
- Which colour the sealant will be
Different surfaces, different methods
Aluminium frames
Metal frames expand in the sun and are often slim, with little room for error. A neat, narrow bead in a colour to match keeps the clean look.
Window sills
Stone and concrete sills have their own joints, and the joint under the frame can let rain run behind. Those are sealed with a product suited to stone or concrete.
What window mastic looks like in Foveran
Foveran is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
Around Foveran, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
