Why act early in Aberchirder

Working on frames from a ladder with a sealant gun is not easy, especially on upper floors. We cut out properly, back deep gaps and tool every joint neatly, in a sealant suited to the wall. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.

Why us?

  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
  • A 12-month guarantee on all work
  • Full insurance on every job

Window mastic in Aberchirder, done properly

Homes in Aberchirder have every kind of window: uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite, along with patio doors, French doors and sills. Each gets a sealant chosen for the frame and the wall it meets. Typical jobs include rain getting in at the frame or under the sill and cracked internal joints between frame and plaster, across composite doors, patio & French doors and window sills.

Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Aberchirder questions

Do you cover smaller places like Aberchirder?

Yes. Aberchirder is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

What guarantee comes with window mastic in Aberchirder?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

Can resealing stop a draught around my window?

It will if the frame joint is the problem. We find where the air is coming from before we reseal.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

The process

You do not need to clear the whole room or building before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are for a typical job. For a place like Aberchirder, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
  2. We remove the old mastic and clean the frame edge and wall.
  3. Where the gap is deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
  5. Every joint is tooled smooth and checked before we leave.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
  • A frame that has rotted at the joint
  • Faulty window hardware

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Aluminium frames
  • Composite doors
  • Timber windows & doors
  • Window sills
  • uPVC windows
  • Patio & French doors

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
  • Keep paint off silicone joints
  • Check the mastic once a year
  • Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows

Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, following the cure time we give you. Keep jet washers away from the frames.

Leaks usually show up in wet, windy weather, but sealant goes on best when frames and walls are dry. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.

Do you need window mastic in Aberchirder?

A lot of older mastic was never designed to stay flexible. Once it’s rigid, every bit of frame movement pulls at it, leaving a hairline gap down one side.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Damp patches on the reveal after heavy rain
  • Draughts coming in around windows and doors
  • Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
  • Draughty joints inside around the window

Whether the job is in Aberchirder itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
