Remedial sealant near Stock

What the job involves on each surface

Windows & doors

Smeared or badly matched mastic can be cut out and redone neatly, matched to the frame colour.

Worktops & kitchens

Old kitchen sealant pulls back from the wall over time. We strip it, degrease the joint and reseal colour-matched to the worktop.

About our remedial sealant in Stock

Some sealant jobs aren’t a simple reseal, because someone has already had a go. Silicone laid over silicone, smears across tiles, the wrong product in a moving joint or mould trapped underneath all need stripping out before the joint can be done properly. Typical jobs include gaps opening along the back of the worktop and wide, uneven beads that look worse than the old ones, across expansion joints, leaking tray & enclosure joints and shrunken worktop sealant.

For a small place like Stock, remedial sealant is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Use a soft cloth, not a scourer, on silicone
  • Check ceilings under showers for marks
  • Check trays and worktops do not move
  • Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint

Leave the new joint to cure fully before it gets wet or moves: normally around 24 hours, or as long as we advise.

Mould under a second layer of sealant keeps growing out of sight. When it finally shows, the whole bead needs to come out.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Stock, jobs at different addresses can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

Leave it or put it right?

Repeat failures have a cause. Taking time to find the cause, whether it’s movement, a leak or the wrong product, is what stops it happening again. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Stock, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Remedial sealant around Stock

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stock Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Billericay station, failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of All Saints, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What happens on the day

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Somewhere as small as Stock, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
  2. All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
  3. Next, any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. Where the joint moves, backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement go in.
  5. Finally we finish the joint and talk you through what we found.

How to prepare

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Advice

What sealant work cannot fix

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:

  • A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
  • A leaking trap, valve or supply pipe
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Expansion joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Failed movement joints
  • Botched or over-sealed joints

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
