Remedial sealant in Pevensey Bay: local notes
Pevensey Bay is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
In the older streets around St Wilfrid's Church Pevensey Bay, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. If you let a flat or house near Pevensey Bay station, failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak.

How we handle remedial sealant in Pevensey Bay
A joint that keeps failing generally has a reason. Movement, the wrong product or a leak from somewhere else will defeat even a perfect bead. Finding that cause comes before any new sealant. Common call-outs are for smears and lumps from a botched reseal and floor or wall movement joints that have failed, on botched or over-sealed joints, expansion joints and leaking tray & enclosure joints.
Smaller places like Pevensey Bay still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: all the old material out, the joint cleaned and dried, then new sealant or grout.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Why deal with it now?
Ripping out a bathroom isn’t usually needed. When the fittings are sound, stripping and resealing the joints is often enough. If they’re not, we’ll tell you. In a smaller place like Pevensey Bay, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Your questions about remedial sealant in Pevensey Bay
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Pevensey Bay station?

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Pevensey Bay?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
Can you strip sealant from an acrylic tray safely?
Yes. Careful removal is most of a remedial job, particularly on softer surfaces like acrylic.
How long does the work take?
A little longer than a standard reseal. Most jobs take a few hours.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours, and we will agree it with you first.
Do the sealants smell?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Ventilation helps.

How we quote for remedial sealant
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Whether the work is at height
- Working hours on commercial sites
- The number of rooms or windows
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Roughly how big the job is
- Whether it has been sealed before
Every job is quoted individually. Simply phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and describe the job and send pictures if you have them.
When to call us in Pevensey Bay
Some joints fail because water is reaching them from behind. A leaking valve, a failed waste or cracked grout feeds water behind the bead, and the sealant lifts or goes mouldy from underneath.
People usually contact us after spotting one of these:
- A second bead peeling off the first
- Decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower
- Black mould underneath the bead
- Leaks that keep coming back after resealing
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Pevensey and Westham CofE Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What the job involves on each surface
Worktops & kitchens
Kitchen joints hold grease and residue, so we spend extra time cleaning before resealing.
Mouldy bath & shower sealant
Black mould inside the bead will not scrub out. The sealant is cut out completely, the joint treated with a mould remover and dried before anti-fungal sanitary silicone goes in.
When it isn’t the sealant
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant won’t put right:
- Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Expansion joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Botched or over-sealed joints
Looking after it afterwards
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Clean sealant with mild products only
- Never fill a movement joint with mortar or grout
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
- Ask why a joint failed before redoing it
Where we have pointed out another fault, have it put right, because the new sealant cannot hold back a problem underneath.
Mould under a second layer of sealant keeps growing out of sight. When it finally shows, the whole bead needs to come out.
The process
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied, including the tidy-up. Parking around Pevensey Bay is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
- Old beads and residue are removed down to clean surfaces.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- We reseal with a product suited to the joint, backed where needed.
- The joint is tooled and you are told about anything else we found.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
