Elrick Remedial Sealant
Remedial sealant for Elrick and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Ask us for a quick quote.
- Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
- Dark patches showing through the sealant
- Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
How it works
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. Around Elrick, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- Surrounding tiles, trays and frames are protected first.
- The botched or failed sealant is cut away completely.
- The joint is degreased and checked for movement and leaks.
- Once dry, a suitable sealant is applied and tooled.
- We give you the cure time and explain what caused the failure.
How to prepare
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Keep children and pets away from the work area

Remedial sealant in Elrick, done properly
If a joint fails again and again, something is causing it. A tray that moves, a worktop that isn’t fixed, the wrong sealant or water getting in elsewhere will beat any new bead. We look for the cause before we reseal. If you’re dealing with mould trapped under a layer of silicone and thick, messy sealant smeared over tiles, we can put it right.
For a place like Elrick, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Act on a lifting corner straight away
- Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
- Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
Ventilation keeps mould away from the new bead: run the fan during and after showers, or open a window.
Signs to act on: sealant lifting at the ends, a second bead visible on top of the first, black mould under the silicone, or stains below a bathroom. Each one is worth getting looked at.
Surface by surface
Leaking trays & enclosures
A shower that leaks after resealing often has a tray that moves or an enclosure sealed on the wrong side. Both are checked before we reseal.
Worktops & kitchens
Shrunken worktop sealant leaves a gap that lets water into the back edge. It’s cut out, degreased and resealed in a colour to suit.
Why deal with it now?
A failed seal rarely means a new bathroom. When the fittings are sound, stripping and resealing the joints is often enough. If they’re not, we’ll tell you. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

What we are called out for in Elrick
How a joint is built matters as much as the product. A bead bonded on three sides, or laid too thick, can’t flex, so it tears when the joint moves. Backing sets the depth and stops that.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
- Wide, uneven beads that look worse than the old ones
- A second bead peeling off the first
- Beads that never stuck properly
Around Elrick, as everywhere, remedial sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Quotes for remedial sealant in Elrick
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- How we’d reach the joints
- The address or postcode of the job
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What remedial sealant looks like in Elrick
Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Managing a site like Westhill Academy? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
