- Over-sealed joints coming away
Remedial sealant in Cultercullen, done properly
The wrong product in the wrong joint fails however neatly it’s applied. We take it out and use a sealant made for that joint. Typical jobs include black mould underneath the bead and sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted, on leaking tray & enclosure joints, botched or over-sealed joints and mouldy bath & shower sealant.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.
Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

- A tray or worktop that needs refixing first

Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Don’t point over movement joints
- Find out why the sealant failed first
- Never seal over old silicone
- Keep the room well ventilated
Clean gently: a mild cleaner and a soft cloth, with no blades or scourers.
A failing joint rarely gets better on its own. Each use pushes more water behind the bead, into whatever is behind or below. Sorting it early limits the damage.
Cultercullen homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
Whether the job is in Cultercullen itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Cultercullen, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Your questions about remedial sealant in Cultercullen
Is Cultercullen within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is there a guarantee on remedial sealant in Cultercullen?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.
What sealant do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.
Someone resealed my shower and it’s leaking again. Can you help?
Yes. We will take all the sealant out, look for why it failed and reseal it properly.
What should I tell you?
Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can you remove sealant that is been put over old sealant?
Yes. It’s slower than a standard reseal, because every layer has to come out cleanly, but it’s the only way the new joint will last.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
Different surfaces, different methods
Leaking trays & enclosures
A cracked tray, failed valve or leaking waste needs a different fix. We’ll tell you what we find.
Worktops & kitchens
A loose worktop splits its sealant. It needs fixing down first, which we will point out.
What we do, step by step
The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we’re treating. The job normally takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Outside jobs in Cultercullen need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
- Old beads and residue are removed down to clean surfaces.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
- We finish neatly and point out anything that needs another trade.
How to prepare
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

There’s no set price list. What we look at:
- The product the joint needs
- Access and height
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

What to tell us for a quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
If you are in Cultercullen and need remedial sealant, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.
Why deal with it now?
Mould under a bead cannot be reached by cleaning. The layers have to come out. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.
