Need remedial sealant in Ceres?

Different surfaces, different methods

Worktops & kitchens

Kitchen joints often have grease and cleaning residue deep in them, so we spend extra time cleaning before resealing.

Windows & doors

Wrong-coloured or messy mastic can be replaced for appearance too, in a colour that suits the frame.

How we handle remedial sealant in Ceres

With more than 20 years’ experience, our applicators have seen most of the ways sealant can fail. We’re ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every remedial job comes with a 12-month guarantee. If you have beads that never stuck properly and thick, messy sealant smeared over tiles, we can put it right.

Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Run the fan after every shower
  • Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
  • Ask why a joint failed before redoing it
  • Do not add new sealant on top of old

Ventilation keeps mould away from the new bead: run the fan during and after showers, or open a window.

Warning signs: peeling layers, mould showing through the bead, leaks after showering or cracks in a movement joint. Each one is worth getting looked at.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Ceres and across Fife. Several sites can go on one quote.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

When it is not the sealant

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
  • Water damage behind tiles that needs a tiler
  • A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Expansion joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Failed movement joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Botched or over-sealed joints

What remedial sealant looks like in Ceres

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Homes close to Ceres Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Outside jobs in Ceres need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. The failure is looked at first, so we know whether it’s sealant, movement or water from elsewhere.
  2. Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
  3. Mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We reseal with a product suited to the joint, backed where needed.
  5. The joint is tooled and you are told about anything else we found.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

What we are called out for in Ceres

How a joint is built matters as much as the product. A bead bonded on three sides, or laid too thick, can’t flex, so it tears when the joint moves. Backing rod or bond-breaker tape prevents it.

People generally contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Movement joints that have split or pulled away
  • Thick, messy sealant smeared over tiles
  • Repeat leaks from the same joint
  • Caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area

If you let a flat or house near Cupar station, botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why

Choosing a sealant specialist

Ceres questions

Is Ceres in your area for remedial sealant?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Ceres is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Ceres?

Yes, Ceres is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and you’ll get one quote.

How long will it take to strip and reseal the joint?

It takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. You’ll know the timing when we quote.

Does remedial work come with a guarantee?

Yes, for 12 months. If we’ve pointed out another problem, getting it fixed helps the new joint last.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

When is the sealant fully cured?

Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We’ll give you the cure time for the product we used.

Do I have to be there?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How we quote for remedial sealant

We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The number and length of the joints

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The type of property

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
