Remedial sealant & repairs in Bicester, Oxfordshire
Failed sealant joints in Bicester need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, with a one-year guarantee.

Remedial sealant in Bicester
A movement joint stops working when its sealant splits or sets hard. The old sealant comes out and backing goes in to control the depth, before resealing with a flexible product suited to the movement. We work on mouldy bath & shower sealant, expansion joints and shrunken worktop sealant, and the jobs we see most are a second bead peeling off the first and worktop sealant that has shrunk and split.
Most bathrooms in a town like Bicester are in family homes, used every day, which is hard on sealant and grout. Black mould along the bath, a lifting bead by the sink or crumbling grout in the shower are the usual signs.
Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Bicester and across Oxfordshire.

Remedial sealant in Bicester: local notes
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
For landlords with property near Bicester North station, failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak. If you live in an older home near Church of St Edburg, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What happens on the day
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied from start to finish. For a job in Bicester, we need access to where the work is and somewhere nearby to park. For outside work, let us know about side access, gates and any upper-floor joints.
- We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
- Every layer of old sealant is cut and cleaned out.
- Next, any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
- We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Related advice
What the job involves on each surface
Movement & expansion joints
Bonding on three sides is a common reason movement joints tear. Backing rod or bond-breaker tape prevents it, letting the sealant flex between the two faces.
Leaking trays & enclosures
A cracked tray, failed valve or leaking waste needs a different fix. We’ll tell you what we find.
What happens if it’s left?
DIY removal often leaves scratches and a film of residue, and the residue left behind stops the next bead bonding. Careful removal is most of a remedial job. In Bicester, as anywhere, most leaks start as a small gap in a joint, and they’re far easier to fix early.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Bicester

What affects the quote in Bicester
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The size of the job
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- When we can work, for business premises
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.
What to tell us for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- The address or postcode of the job
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- If someone has resealed it before
Call for a quick quote, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved and send you a clear quote.
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
When to call us in Bicester
One of the commonest remedial jobs is sealant on top of sealant. New silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so the top layer lifts and water and mould collect between the two.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- Torn expansion joints
- Sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
Schools such as Brookside Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- What product goes in the joint
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- What happens if the job turns out different
