Regrouting for Worth homes and businesses

Regrouting in Worth

Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they need flexible silicone instead. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. If you are dealing with floor grout that won’t come clean and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, we can put it right.

Homes around Worth range from older cottages to more recent houses. In older homes, walls and floors can move a little more, so the right flexible sealant matters.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Worth: your questions answered

Should the sealant in an older Worth home be renewed?

If it hasn’t been replaced for some years, it’s usually worth it. Sealant is a maintenance item: how long it lasts depends on use, cleaning and exposure, and many homes in Worth may already be on their second or third set.

Is Worth within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Generally, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and you will get one quote.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

Landlord and commercial work in Worth

We also work for property managers and facilities teams in Worth and across West Sussex. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Signs you need regrouting in Worth

Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it over time, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines

If you look after a building such as Maidenbower Junior School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • What preparation is included

DIY versus a professional finish

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What regrouting looks like in Worth

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. Worth is part of Crawley, one of the post-war new towns. With many homes dating from the post-war decades, plenty of bathrooms have been resealed or refitted more than once. Sealant laid over old sealant never bonds properly, so it all has to come out.

Homes close to St Nicholas' Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Rented homes near Three Bridges station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What happens on the day

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. A visit to Worth is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We will tell you before any work starts so you know what’s involved. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. In a smaller place like Worth, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Cracked grout does not stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.
