How we handle regrouting in Whitecraig

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. You might go from white to grey or back again. Just mention the colour you’d like when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where the shower grout has gone and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are covered after we have gone.

Why act early in Whitecraig

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

FAQs for Whitecraig

Do you work in hotels near Whitecraig?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Is Whitecraig within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Can you change the grout colour?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. Darker grout can hide marks and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Most of the time, yes. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so we renew both and include it in your quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

What sealant work can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

How we quote for regrouting

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site

The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before work begins.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job

Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we will come back to you with a quote.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outside jobs in Whitecraig need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Whitecraig homes and their sealant

Whitecraig is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Schools such as Loretto School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Whitecraig is about 2 miles south-east of Musselburgh, in East Lothian. We carry out regrouting for homes and businesses in Whitecraig, as part of our work across East Lothian. Whitecraig is one of 48 places in East Lothian we cover. Edinburgh is on our list too, around 7 miles away.

We work across the EH21 postcode area for regrouting and the streets around it. Do you need regrouting in Whitecraig?

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks as the bath or tray moves. Those joints should be silicone, and when they are not, water gets in.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift

Rented homes near Wallyford station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • The length of the guarantee

Our hiring checklist

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
