What we’re called out for in Westbourne

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Look out for these signs:

  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift

Rented homes near Emsworth station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

10 questions to ask before you book

Regrouting in Westbourne, done properly

Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they need flexible silicone instead. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. Common call-outs are for floor grout that has worn and darkened and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease, on shower walls, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles.

For a small place like Westbourne, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in West Sussex.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

The process

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The visit itself normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Westbourne, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Westbourne questions

Can you do regrouting in Westbourne?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Westbourne is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

I let a flat near Emsworth station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Can you change the grout colour?

It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint, not just the surface.

Will it make a mess?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We will give you a time to follow at the end of the visit.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Tell us what needs doing and where, plus pictures if you have them. We will ask anything else we need to know.

How long does the job take?

That depends on the amount of work, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. The old sealant has to come out completely.

Regrouting around Westbourne

Westbourne is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around St John the Baptist's Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Managing a site like Westbourne Primary School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Westbourne is about 3 miles east of Havant, in West Sussex. Wherever you are in the PO10 postcode area, we cover regrouting for homes and businesses. Across West Sussex, we cover 371 places, Westbourne among them. Our Portsmouth page covers work nearby.

Every address in PO10 is covered for regrouting. If you need regrouting at a property on The Square, Church Road and Crockford Road or a nearby road, our applicators can take on the job. We also cover the places around Westbourne: Lumley (1 mile south), Woodmancote (1 mile east), Emsworth (1 mile south-west), Southbourne (1 mile south-east) and Denvilles (2 miles west). Larger places within reach include Bognor Regis (12 miles south-east), Chichester (7 miles east), Selsey (11 miles south-east), Portfield (7 miles east), Yapton (14 miles east) and East Wittering (7 miles south).

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so grout there works hardest. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
