Regrouting in Watford: local notes

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Watford. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you let a flat or house near Watford Junction station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Watford is about 17 miles north-west of London, in Hertfordshire. Our applicators cover regrouting for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Watford. Our area takes in 381 places across Hertfordshire, large and small. London is on our list too, around 17 miles away.

Work in WD25, WD19, WD18 and WD17 is quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. You’ll find streets such as Station Road, Church Road and The Parade High Street. Watford is on the A41 and A405, which makes it straightforward to reach with everything needed for regrouting. Being one of Hertfordshire’s larger places, Watford has every kind of property, from flats to offices.

Regrouting in Watford, done properly

Across Watford, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We are often asked to deal with floor grout that won’t come clean and splashback grout that has darkened, on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors.

A place the size of Watford has homes of every age, from period houses to modern flats and estates. Whatever the age of the home, sealant and grout in bathrooms and kitchens wear out in the end.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Quotes for regrouting in Watford

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Questions from Watford

Do you work in hotels near Watford?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

Do you work for landlords with property near Watford Junction station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Generally, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Do you cover Watford?

Yes, we do. Our applicators work in Watford, and the service is the same as everywhere else.

What sealant do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can be quoted together.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

The process

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Jobs in a place the size of Watford range from town-centre flats to offices and family homes. For each, it helps to know about access, parking and where the joints are.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Before we arrive

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Wet rooms

Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.

What sealant work can’t fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

When to call us in Watford

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble and showers that get daily use suffer most.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Floor grout that will not come clean

Schools such as Watford St John's Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
