What affects the cost of regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The size of the job
  • How easy the joints are to reach

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • The rough size of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If someone has resealed it before

If you’re in Warsash and need regrouting, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you will get a clear quote before any work starts.

About our regrouting in Warsash

Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. If you’re dealing with a grout colour that no longer suits the room and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can help.

Smaller places like Warsash still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: old sealant or grout cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Warsash as everywhere else we work.

Regrouting around Warsash

Warsash is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Homes close to Church of St Mary include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you look after a building such as Hook-With-Warsash Church of England Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Warsash is about 4 miles west of Fareham, in Hampshire. From the centre of Warsash to the outskirts, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Our area takes in 683 places across Hampshire. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 6 miles away.

Our applicators cover all of SO31 for regrouting. That includes homes and businesses on Church Road, Wild Rose Crescent and Willow Herb Close and the roads around them. We also cover the places around Warsash: Sarisbury Green (1 mile north), Locks Heath (1 mile north-east), Hook (1 mile south-east), Hook Park Estate (1 mile south) and Abshot (1 mile south-east). For a walk, there’s Holly Hill Woodland Park.

What we do, step by step

The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. A visit to Warsash is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Advice

Why it’s worth doing now in Warsash

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They don’t fill cracks or stop water, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Homes in smaller places like Warsash can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Different surfaces, different methods

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so good grout is important. We check the tiles first.

When to call us in Warsash

Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down, especially in a shower that’s used every day.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

If you let a flat or house near Swanwick station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Common questions in Warsash

Can you do regrouting in Warsash?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Warsash is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Warsash?

Yes, Warsash is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is it messy?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

Does someone need to be in?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Where do you work from?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
