Regrouting in The Platt, Kent
Our applicators work in The Platt on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
How we handle regrouting in The Platt
Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they need flexible silicone instead. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. If you’re dealing with grout washed out of a shower and splashback grout that has darkened, we can put it right, on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and wet rooms alike.
Somewhere as small as The Platt, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

Regrouting in The Platt: local notes
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Frant Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Rented homes near Frant station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
The Platt is about 4 miles south of Royal Tunbridge Wells, in Kent. From the centre of The Platt to the outskirts, we cover regrouting for every kind of property, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Across Kent, we cover 922 places, The Platt among them. You can also see our page for Crawley, about 20 miles away.
Jobs for regrouting in TN3 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you are just outside The Platt, we cover Frant (1 mile north), Mark Cross (2 miles south), Eridge Green (2 miles north-west), Town Row (3 miles south-west) and Tidebrook (3 miles south). What else we do in The Platt
Keeping the joints in good condition
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.
Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
Your questions about regrouting in The Platt
Do you cover The Platt for regrouting?

Will you come out to The Platt?
Yes, The Platt is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.
How long should I wait before showering?
We’ll tell you on the day. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.
Can you regrout just the shower?

Landlord and commercial work in The Platt
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.
We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
Leave it or put it right?
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. In a small place like The Platt, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.

How it works
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as The Platt, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Related advice
What we’re called out for in The Platt
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Floor grout that will not come clean
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Splashback grout that has darkened
Homes close to The Parish Church of St Alban include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.
Before booking anyone
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Who turns up on the day
- Are they insured?
- Which colour the sealant will be

- When we can work, for business premises

How the job changes by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Corners and edges
Internal corners move, so they get silicone, not grout.
