Regrouting in Tidebrook, East Sussex

Regrouting in Tidebrook, done properly
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. Common call-outs are for grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned and floor grout that has worn and darkened, on bathroom wall tiles, tiled floors and bathroom floors.
Being in a small place like Tidebrook makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

What regrouting looks like in Tidebrook
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
Homes close to The Parish Church of St John the Baptist include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Schools such as Uplands Community College are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tidebrook
Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. In a small place like Tidebrook, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
What we’re called out for in Tidebrook
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, until the joints are rough and low.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
If you let a flat or house near Wadhurst station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

How it works
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a village or hamlet like Tidebrook, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Clear the area around the work
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Advice
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
When it isn’t the sealant
We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think before you book.
