Regrouting near The Moor

Regrouting in The Moor

Across The Moor, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on shower walls, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles, and the jobs we see most are good tiles let down by tired grout and splashback grout that has darkened.

Somewhere as small as The Moor, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

Signs you need regrouting in The Moor

Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Grout in corners that has cracked

Managing a site like Marlborough House School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions to ask before booking

How it works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can get on with your day. The job generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as The Moor, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Honest limits

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Where we work in The Moor

  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • The type of property
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • If someone has resealed it before

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add photos by email if you can.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

How to look after the new joints

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Rinse the tiles after showering

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

For landlords and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. We can quote for more than one property at once.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

What regrouting looks like in The Moor

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around The Moor. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Laurence, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Letting a property close to Etchingham station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.
