Regrouting in Four Throws
Grout fills the gaps between tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water can get in behind the tiles. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. If you have grout that makes sound tiles look old and cracked grout along the bath or tray, we can help, on tiled floors, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom floors alike.
For a small place like Four Throws, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.
Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

Questions from Four Throws
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Four Throws?
Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
I let a flat near Etchingham station. Can you help?
Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.
What sealant do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.
Can I do it myself?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, we can. More than one area can be quoted together.
When can I use the shower again?
You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.
How long will you be here?
Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
How the visit works
On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Four Throws, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Mention any tricky access

Advice
Honest limits
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What affects the cost of regrouting
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Whether the work is at height
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many areas need sealing
- The type of sealant required
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Whether it has been sealed before
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.
Why it’s worth doing now in Four Throws
Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Older cottages and farmhouses around Four Throws can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.
We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll talk you through it.
Why choose Mr Mastic in Four Throws
- More than 20 years in sealant work
- Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- We never seal over old sealant
Do you need regrouting in Four Throws?
When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before any work starts.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
If you look after a building such as Hawkhurst Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
Before booking anyone

- Whether they’re fully insured
- Whether you can choose the colour
- Whether VAT is included
Can I do it myself?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Four Throws
Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Four Throws. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Rented homes near Etchingham station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
