How we quote for regrouting

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

Asking for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the property is

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Regrouting in Tankerness, done properly

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and old grout in a dated colour, we can put it right, on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and tiled floors alike.

In and around a place like Tankerness, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

What we do, step by step

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. The job usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. For a place like Tankerness, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

How to get a quote

There’s no standard price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we cannot put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls

Aftercare tips

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

Tankerness: your questions answered

Can you do regrouting in Tankerness?

Yes, Tankerness is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Tankerness?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Will you leave a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll tell you what we’re using.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

How long does the job take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Normally we do both. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and include it in your quote.

Do you grout the corners?

Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles, while corners and edges need a joint that can move.

What we are called out for in Tankerness

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

Homes close to St Andrew's Burial-Ground include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What preparation is included
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

Our hiring checklist

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

For landlords and businesses

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Tankerness

Tankerness is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
