Regrouting near Salvington

Regrouting in Salvington

Across Salvington, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you are dealing with discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and shower grout that has worn away, we can help.

In a smaller place like Salvington, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, from older cottages to newer builds. Bathrooms and kitchens here get the same daily wear as anywhere, and the sealant and grout show it first.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

Regrouting in Salvington: local notes

Salvington is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Durrington Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For landlords with property near West Worthing station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Salvington is about 1 mile north of Worthing, in West Sussex. Anywhere in BN13, our applicators can take on regrouting. Across West Sussex, we cover 371 places, and Salvington is one of them. Our Brighton page covers work nearby, about 12 miles away.

We cover every part of BN13 and BN14 for regrouting and the streets around it. Local streets include Stone Lane, Links Road and Lindum Road. With the A24 and A27 close by, Salvington is simple for us to get to for regrouting. Neighbouring places we cover for regrouting include Offington (1 mile east), Worthing (1 mile south), Broadwater (1 mile south-east), Findon Valley (1 mile north) and East Worthing (3 miles south-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Bognor Regis (13 miles west), Burgess Hill (15 miles north-east), Littlehampton (6 miles west), Shoreham-by-Sea (6 miles east), Lancing (3 miles east) and Rustington (5 miles west).

Green spaces nearby include Widewater Lagoon and Highdown Hill.

What we are called out for in Salvington

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Look out for these signs:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

If you live in an older home near St Symphorian's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

  • What product goes in the joint
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether you can choose the colour

How to choose a mastic man

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

The process

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a job in Salvington, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

Have any tile that moves checked straight away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

Surface by surface

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it and renew the silicone at the edges.

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.

Landlord and commercial work in Salvington

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

If you manage several properties in or around Salvington, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs.

Salvington questions

Can you do regrouting in Salvington?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Salvington is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing.

I let a flat near West Worthing station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.

When can I use the shower again?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We’ll tell you exactly how long when the job is done.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Salvington and the rest of West Sussex, along with the rest of our area.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.

How long will you be here?

It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Why it’s worth doing now in Salvington

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but patched grout rarely matches the rest and the old grout carries on failing. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. In an older home around Salvington, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.
