- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Grout in corners that has cracked
Regrouting in Renfrew, done properly
Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you’re dealing with kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, we can help.
Scottish water is generally soft, so homes in a town like Renfrew see less limescale than many parts of England. But mould still finds its way into sealant and grout wherever a room stays damp.
Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Renfrew and across Renfrewshire.

How it works
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room and we leave things clean and tidy. A visit in Renfrew needs three things planned: access, parking and where the work is. Outdoor jobs need a dry day, so they can move if the weather turns.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It doesn’t repair failed tanking underneath.
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Renfrew: your questions answered
What guarantee comes with regrouting in Renfrew?
All our work, in Renfrew and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
I let a flat near Hillington West station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We will point them out before any grout comes out.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
How long does regrouting take?
As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Bigger jobs take longer, and we’ll tell you how long to expect.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes, plenty of people choose to. Darker grout can hide marks, while lighter grout brightens a room.
What affects the cost of regrouting
We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- How many areas need sealing
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The number and length of the joints
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- The type of property
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
What we can’t put right
We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.
Surfaces we seal
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Shower walls
- Bathroom floors
- Tiled floors
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Regrouting in Renfrew: local notes
Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
For landlords with property near Hillington West station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. If you look after a building such as Renfrew High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

What else we do in Renfrew
What happens if it’s left?
Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. If you live in a flat in Renfrew, failed sealant can send water to the neighbours below, which turns a small job into a bigger one.
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
