Regrouting in Mystole

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that won’t come clean, the stain is often in the grout itself. New grout is the fix that lasts and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. If you have grout in corners that has cracked and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, we can put it right.

Being in a small place like Mystole makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

How long will you be here?

That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

What does regrouting cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a short description of the job.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a village or hamlet like Mystole, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Advice

What affects the quote in Mystole

There’s no set price list. What we look at:

  • The amount of work
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • The type of property
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it has been sealed before

If you’re in Mystole and need regrouting, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and you will get a clear quote before work begins.

Signs you need regrouting in Mystole

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Floor grout that will not come clean

Homes close to Church of St Mary include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Questions to ask before booking

  • The length of the guarantee
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What happens if the job turns out different

How to choose a mastic man

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

What sealant work cannot fix

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles

Leave it or put it right?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Around Mystole, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Mystole homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Managing a site like Chartham Primary School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you let a flat or house near Chartham station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Mystole is about 4 miles south-west of Canterbury, in Kent. Wherever you are in the CT4 postcode area, we can carry out regrouting at your property. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, and Mystole is one of them. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 41 miles away.
