Regrouting in Monreith

Regrouting in Monreith

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We are often asked to deal with dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and good tiles let down by tired grout, on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and tiled floors.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Monreith work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Bathroom floors

Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Questions from Monreith

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Monreith?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Monreith within the area you cover?

Yes. Monreith is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes. We’ll check the other tiled areas as well and let you know if more needs doing.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected.

How long does regrouting take?

Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

When can I use the shower again?

We will tell you on the day. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Quotes for regrouting in Monreith

We do not publish a price list. What we look at:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The type of sealant required
  • Access and height

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What to tell us for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Want a quote for regrouting? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outdoor work around Monreith depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Advice

Regrouting around Monreith

Monreith is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

In and around Monreith, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

Leave it or put it right?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Do you need regrouting in Monreith?

Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob

For jobs in and around Monreith, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.
