About our regrouting in Horton

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you call 0345 464 0079 or email us. We work on bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are cracked grout along the bath or tray and grout washed out of a shower.

Being in a small place like Horton makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

The process

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Horton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

What we’re called out for in Horton

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

The problems people normally mention when they call are:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Common questions in Horton

Do you work for landlords with property near Chessington South station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Will you come out to Horton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

When can I use the shower again?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We will tell you exactly how long when the job is done.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Do you grout the corners?

Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles and moving joints need sealant.

How much does regrouting cost in Horton?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes, we often do. The shower generally fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

What regrouting looks like in Horton

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as St Mary's CofE (Aided) Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Chessington South station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

How the job changes by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Stained grout is best replaced.

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The product the joint needs
  • The size of the job
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the property is
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

Want a quote for regrouting? Please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough, so it’s worth acting early.
