Regrouting in Horam, East Sussex
Our applicators work in Horam on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough, so it’s worth acting early.
Regrouting in Horam
We check the tiles before any grout comes out. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are old grout in a dated colour and good tiles let down by tired grout.
Somewhere as small as Horam, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What affects the quote in Horam
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- The number of rooms or windows
- Working hours on commercial sites
- How easy the joints are to reach
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.
Asking for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to know:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
DIY versus a professional finish
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Horam: your questions answered
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Horam?
All our work, in Horam and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can you do regrouting in Horam?
Yes, Horam is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Is resealing included with regrouting?
In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.
What information do you need?
Tell us what needs doing and where, plus photos if you have them. If we need more, we will ask.
How do I get a quote for regrouting in Horam?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.
Is there any odour?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures. Opening a window helps.
Do I need to be at home?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
What happens on the day
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Horam, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Related advice
Leave it or put it right?
Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We will tell you before any work starts so you know what’s involved. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Horam, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Surface by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
Regrouting around Horam
Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For an older house near a landmark such as Christ Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Managing a site like Maynards Green Community Primary School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What sealant work can’t fix
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- A leaking wet room membrane
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
