Regrouting in Hoo, Kent

Our applicators work in Hoo on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.

  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Hoo

Grout is the filler between your tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water has a way in behind the tiling. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in, then reseal the corners and edges. We work on shower walls, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about floor grout that won’t come clean and old grout in a dated colour.

Being in a small place like Hoo makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In a small place like Hoo, access is usually the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Before we arrive

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Clear the area around the work

FAQs for Hoo

Will you come out to Hoo?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you work for landlords with property near Minster station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details for a clear quote.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and could still leak.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles, while corners and edges need a joint that can move.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Regrouting in Hoo: local notes

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Letting a property close to Minster station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

How we quote for regrouting

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

What to tell us for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The problem you’ve noticed

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

Why it’s worth doing now in Hoo

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hoo can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us for an honest opinion and a quote.

Signs you need regrouting in Hoo

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Monkton Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
