Regrouting for Holmethorpe homes and businesses

Regrouting in Holmethorpe

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. Common call-outs are for greasy, stained grout behind the hob and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, on bathroom floors, shower walls and tiled floors.

Smaller places like Holmethorpe still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: all the old material out, the joint cleaned and dried, then new sealant or grout.

Every job comes with a one-year guarantee.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Stained grout is best replaced.

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.

Why deal with it now?

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. Homes in smaller places like Holmethorpe can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

FAQs for Holmethorpe

Will you come out to Holmethorpe?

Yes, Holmethorpe is covered. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

I let a flat near Redhill station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

How long does regrouting take?

That depends on how much there is to do, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting, so you can decide what to do.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we are fully insured.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

The process

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a job in Holmethorpe, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it so early action pays.

Do you need regrouting in Holmethorpe?

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Old grout in a dated colour

Letting a property close to Redhill station? Then a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • Are they insured?

What regrouting looks like in Holmethorpe

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you look after a building such as East Surrey College, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
