How we quote for regrouting
We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- Access and height
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- The number and length of the joints
- Any working-time requirements on site
We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Helping us quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- The type of property
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- Roughly how big the job is
Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will talk you through the work and send you a clear quote.
Regrouting in Holm, done properly
When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. We work on wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles, and people most often call us about floor grout that won’t come clean and grout washed out of a shower.
For a place like Holm, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Holm and across Na h-Eileanan Siar.

Your questions about regrouting in Holm
Is Holm within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Holm for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Holm is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
How long does regrouting take?
As a guide, most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Larger jobs naturally take longer.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Do you reseal at the same time?
Most of the time, yes. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so we renew both and it’s all in the quote.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.
Should I try DIY first?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Do the sealants smell?
It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. The work usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outside jobs in Holm need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Tell us if parking is tricky
How to get a quote
Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send photos if you have them.
Advice
Signs you need regrouting in Holm
Grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.
The problems people generally mention when they call are:
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
In and around Holm, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether you can choose the colour
- What preparation is included
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether they’re fully insured
Can I do it myself?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
We also work for property managers and facilities teams in Holm and across Na h-Eileanan Siar. Several sites can go on one quote, and we’re fully insured for the work.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we will quote.
Regrouting around Holm
Holm is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
For jobs in and around Holm, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

What we can’t put right
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal
- Bathroom floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Tiled floors
- Wet rooms
Aftercare tips
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Have any tile that moves checked straight away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.
Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
