Regrouting for homes and businesses in Garmouth

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We are often asked to deal with gaps where the shower grout has gone and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, across kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles.

In and around a place like Garmouth, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Regrouting in Garmouth: local notes

Garmouth is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

In the older streets around Garmouth Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. In and around Garmouth, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Garmouth questions

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Garmouth?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Garmouth?

Yes. Garmouth is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.

How long should I wait before showering?

It varies with the products and the room. We will tell you exactly how long when the job is done.

What do you put in the joint?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The type of property
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

How the job changes by surface

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We replace it, and reseal the corners.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so good grout is important. We check the tiles first.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. In a place like Garmouth, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

What you get with us

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a place like Garmouth, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
