Regrouting in Fontwell, done properly

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the discolouration has generally soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. We work on shower walls, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are floor grout that has worn and darkened and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease.

Being in a small place like Fontwell makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Fontwell

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ormiston Six Villages Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Barnham station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Fontwell is about 5 miles north of Bognor Regis, in West Sussex. The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The type of sealant required
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Surface by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a village or hamlet like Fontwell, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Fontwell questions

Is Fontwell within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover Fontwell for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Fontwell is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.

How long will you be here?

A typical job takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels in Fontwell.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Should I try it myself first?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
