Leave it or put it right?

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often do not match and the old grout carries on failing. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. Around Drumsturdy, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Drumsturdy

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and bathroom floors, and the jobs we see most are grout in a colour the owner wants to change and grout washed out of a shower.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Common problems we fix in Drumsturdy

Grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout in corners that has cracked

If you let a flat or house near Monifieth station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Regrouting in Drumsturdy: local notes

Drumsturdy is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Monifieth High School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to Newbigging Parish Church And War Memorial include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

How we quote for regrouting

You will get a clear quote before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • The type of property

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Drumsturdy: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords with property near Monifieth station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Do you cover Drumsturdy for regrouting?

Yes, Drumsturdy is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

You’ll get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own won’t fix that and we will say so before going ahead.

Do you grout the corners?

Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

How to prepare

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Advice

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
