Regrouting in Crossbush

Should I try it myself first?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Crossbush

We work across Crossbush, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. We’re often asked to deal with floor grout that won’t come clean and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease, on wet rooms, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles.

In a village or hamlet like Crossbush, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Crossbush needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention any tricky access

Honest limits

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors

What happens if it’s left?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. In a small place like Crossbush, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

When to call us in Crossbush

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalen, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How to choose a mastic man

Crossbush: your questions answered

I let a flat near Arundel station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Will you come out to Crossbush?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work, and we’re fully insured.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.

What should I tell you?

Tell us what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so good grout is important. We check for loose tiles before starting.

Aftercare tips

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout

Have any tile that moves checked right away. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Regrouting around Crossbush

Crossbush is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you let a flat or house near Arundel station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. Schools such as The Littlehampton Academy are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
