Gutter sealing in Crossbush

Gutter and fascia replacement is not our trade, and nor is roofing. What sealant does is close joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. Common call-outs are for drips from gutter joints and end caps and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter, across garage door frames, gutter joints and roofline trims.

Around Crossbush, older buildings can be stone, brick or timber-framed, many with extensions added later. Where one material meets another is where water normally gets in.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

How it works

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before we start. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In a small place like Crossbush, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

What we are called out for in Crossbush

Sagging sections pull joints apart. Resealing a sagging joint will not last so the brackets need attention first.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
  • Old gutter sealant that has let go
  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Leaking gutter joints and stop ends

If you let a flat or house near Arundel station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How long to leave it before use

Quotes for gutter sealing in Crossbush

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The type of sealant required
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The size of the job
  • Any working-time requirements on site

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

What to tell us for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Where the property is

Crossbush: your questions answered

Is Crossbush within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Does the coastal weather in Crossbush affect outside sealant?

Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.

What about gutters on a second or third storey?

It depends on the access. Let us know the height and the ground below when you phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Do you install new fascias or gutters?

Replacement is not our trade. If a gutter is broken or sagging, we will tell you so you can call the right trade.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Can you match the sealant colour?

In most cases you can choose. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in and agree one before any work starts.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

Sealant won’t hold a sagging gutter. A gutter installer needs to refix it, and we will tell you if that’s what we find.

For landlords and businesses

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

When it is not the sealant

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Gutter joints
  • Garage door frames
  • Soffit joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims

What happens if it’s left?

Replacing fascias because of open joints is normally unnecessary. A neat seal closes the gaps if the boards are sound. Around Crossbush, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

Why book with us

  • More than 20 years in sealant work
  • Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants

DIY versus a professional finish

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Gutter sealing in Crossbush: local notes

Crossbush is within about 3 miles of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. With historic houses such as Ecclesden Manor (about 3 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Crossbush as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

Schools such as The Littlehampton Academy are buildings too, and larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalen, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Crossbush is about 2 miles north of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. Our applicators cover gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Crossbush, as part of our work across West Sussex. Crossbush is one of 371 places in West Sussex where we work. There’s also a page for Brighton, about 18 miles away.
