Regrouting in Claddach Kirkibost, done properly

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Either way, tiled areas in Claddach Kirkibost are handled the same careful way. We are often asked to deal with stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and floor grout that has worn and darkened, across bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Claddach Kirkibost: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Claddach Kirkibost?

Yes. Claddach Kirkibost is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you do regrouting in Claddach Kirkibost?

Yes, Claddach Kirkibost is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

What do you put in the joint?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Can I do it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.

Claddach Kirkibost homes and their sealant

Claddach Kirkibost is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Whether the job is in Claddach Kirkibost itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It usually fails first.

Do you need regrouting in Claddach Kirkibost?

A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean

Around Claddach Kirkibost, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What your quote should include

  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • Whether VAT is included
  • What preparation is included

When something else is needed

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks

Leave it or put it right?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

The process

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Around Claddach Kirkibost, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

Advice

How we quote for regrouting

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • The amount of work
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number of rooms or windows

Combining jobs into one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Where the property is

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
