Regrouting in Ardheisker, done properly
Grout fills the gaps between tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water can get in behind the tiles. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. We’re often asked to deal with floor grout that won’t come clean and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, across kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and wet rooms.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Ardheisker work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Aftercare tips
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Old grout in a dated colour

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
What happens on the day
Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Ardheisker depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice
How we quote for regrouting
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The size of the job
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- Roughly how big the job is
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Whether it has been sealed before
- The type of property
We quote each job on its own. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and photos are welcome.
When something else is needed
We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What we seal
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom floors
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Kitchen splashbacks
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
