Regrouting in Chalksole Green

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on tiled floors, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned.

For a small place like Chalksole Green, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we are there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks

How the job changes by surface

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so good grout is important. We check for loose tiles before starting.

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

Chalksole Green homes and their sealant

Chalksole Green is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Anthony the Martyr, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Rented homes near Kearsney station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

What happens on the day

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. In a small place like Chalksole Green, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

Should I try it myself first?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Any working-time requirements on site

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it has been sealed before

To get a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.
