Regrouting near Wolverton

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Wolverton

Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We work on kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are gaps where the shower grout has gone and grout in corners that has cracked.

In a village or hamlet like Wolverton, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Wolverton and everywhere else we cover.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room in most cases. In a small place like Wolverton, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Leave it or put it right?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out and stains often come back through. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Wolverton, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear quote for the lot.

What sealant work cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

How we quote for regrouting

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • The size of the job
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • The type of property
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Roughly how big the job is

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Regrouting around Wolverton

Wolverton is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Astor College for the Arts, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Homes close to Church of St Anthony the Martyr include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Rented homes near Kearsney station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Wolverton questions

Will you come out to Wolverton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you cover Wolverton for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Wolverton is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

What information do you need?

Let us know what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. If we need more, we will ask.

Where do you work from?

We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

How much does regrouting cost in Wolverton?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we will talk you through it.

What sealant do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
