Regrouting in Banknock

Our applicators work in Banknock on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.

  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone

Regrouting in Banknock

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

About our regrouting in Banknock

A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. If you are dealing with corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What affects the quote in Banknock

We don’t publish a price list. What we look at:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The number of rooms or windows

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What to tell us for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The rough size of the job
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Photos by email, if that is easy

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.

Leave it or put it right?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout normally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Around Banknock, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear quote before we start.

Why book with us

  • 12-month guarantee on every job
  • Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels

Take a look at how sealant jobs are priced or our reviews.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Banknock: your questions answered

I let a flat near Cumbernauld station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before we start.

Is Banknock within the area you cover?

Yes. Banknock is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Is it messy?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

How long does regrouting take?

As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

The process

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a place like Banknock, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Regrouting in Banknock: local notes

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For an older house near a landmark such as Haggs Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Letting a property close to Cumbernauld station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Schools such as Abronhill High School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
