Our bathroom resealing service in EH34

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. Typical jobs include black spots spreading through the bead and failed sealant on the screen profile, on basins & vanity units, baths and shower trays & enclosures.

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen, and the area is left clean.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Pencaitland: If you let a flat or house near Prestonpans station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. In and around Pencaitland, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Leave it or put it right?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal.

What your quote should include

  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • What insurance they hold
  • What product goes in the joint
  • How the colour is chosen

Different surfaces, different methods

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

Honest limits

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Signs you need bathroom resealing

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Any mould that needs treating

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear quote for your job. To get started, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

EH34: your questions answered

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we’re fully insured too.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Is it messy?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, we can. We strip the bead, treat the joint and lay new anti-fungal silicone.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
