What affects the quote in Juniper Green

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The type of sealant required

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.

New build mastic in Juniper Green, done properly

Some owners wait for the first year’s movement before having joints redone. For small cosmetic gaps, that is reasonable, but a failed shower or bath seal shouldn’t wait. We work on bathrooms & en suites, plot handovers and show homes, and people most often call us about joints pulling apart as timber shrinks and gaps behind new kitchen upstands.

Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and it settles over the first years, which shows as gaps at skirtings and floor joints. Older stone-built homes, meanwhile, often have timber floors that move with the seasons.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Do you need new build mastic in Juniper Green?

Sealant applied onto damp surfaces does not bond well. On a busy site, joints aren’t always given time to dry.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Messy sealant that spoils new finishes
  • Cracked sealant around new window and door frames
  • Skirting joints opening in the first winter
  • Gaps opening as the house dries out and settles

Around Juniper Green, as everywhere, new build mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Where the floor meets a bath panel or kitchen plinth, the joint keeps mop water out. They get a flexible, water-resistant sealant.

Plot handovers

We work through plots to your schedule, sealing each room ready for handover. Each joint is cleaned and primed where needed to keep callbacks down.

Why act early in Juniper Green

Running a new bead over the builder’s sealant might look tidy for a few weeks, but it can’t bond to what’s underneath. Taking it all out and starting again is the only way to get a lasting seal. Around Juniper Green, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When something else is needed

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Plumbing faults behind the sealant
  • Broken tiles or a split tray
  • Disputes or warranty claims with your builder

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job usually takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Outside jobs in Juniper Green need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We go through the snagging list or plot schedule and agree the joints to do.
  2. We cut out every bit of the failed or messy sealant.
  3. Each joint is cleaned of dust and grit, then primed if required.
  4. New sealant suited to each joint is applied and tooled neatly.
  5. Finally, each room is checked and you’re given the cure time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
