Hammer questions

Is Hammer in your area for new build mastic?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Hammer is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Haslemere station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

How long should I leave it?

That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you.

Does someone need to be in?

We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that generally means someone at home.

Can you work from my snagging list?

Yes. Send it with pictures and we will quote for the sealant items. Items that need a plumber, tiler or the builder are flagged.

Where are you based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Hammer.

What colour sealant will you use?

White and clear are the most common, but sealant comes in other colours too. We match the colour to the finish and agree it with you.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

How we handle new build mastic in Hammer

Some new-home owners let the house settle before resealing. That makes sense for small gaps that are just cosmetic, but a seal that is letting water through needs doing now. If you have beads laid onto grit and dust from the build and joints pulling apart as timber shrinks, we can put it right.

Older homes in small places like Hammer often have timber floors that move with the seasons, so skirting and threshold joints need a flexible sealant rather than a rigid filler.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How the job changes by surface

Show homes

Show homes need sealant that looks right from day one. We lay neat, even beads in colours to suit the finishes.

Skirting and floors

Floors and skirting move as the house dries and the heating runs. We use a flexible product rather than caulk painted or coloured to suit.

What sealant work cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder
  • Damaged fittings that need replacing
  • Cracking that points to a structural problem

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms & en suites
  • Windows & doors
  • Skirting & floors
  • Plot handovers
  • Show homes

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Check bath and shower seals every few months as the house settles
  • Ventilate bathrooms well, especially in the first year
  • Avoid scourers and strong chemicals on sealant
  • Raise failed sealant with the developer while you’re covered

Clean the sealant with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Keep scourers and harsh chemicals off it, which can damage the surface.

Lifting sealant traps moisture and mould behind it. Resealing before mould gets in saves a harder job later.

Can I do it myself?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

What affects the cost of new build mastic

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The size of the job
  • The number of rooms or windows

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • If someone has resealed it before

For new build mastic in Hammer, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

What happens on the day

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots. Somewhere as small as Hammer, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at why each joint failed, including any movement.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the joints cleaned.
  3. Joints are dried and primed where the product calls for it.
  4. New sealant goes in, with baths filled first so they’re at their heaviest.
  5. We check every joint and leave you with the cure times.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Clear the area around the work

Signs you need new build mastic in Hammer

Sealant is often one of the last jobs before handover. Joints are not always cleaned of dust or primed, and the sealant sits on grit instead of the surface.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Joints pulling apart as timber shrinks
  • Shower seals failing in the first year or two
  • Cracked sealant around new window and door frames
  • Cracked caulk along new skirting

If you’ve bought a new home near Haslemere station, the sealant around baths, showers and frames is worth checking in the first year or two.

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
