What we cannot put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Broken tiles or a split tray
  • Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder
  • A tray or bath that is not properly supported, until it’s fixed

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

New build mastic in Greenloaning, done properly

Some new-home owners let the house settle before resealing. For small cosmetic gaps, that is reasonable, but a failed shower or bath seal shouldn’t wait. We work on plot handovers, bathrooms & en suites and windows & doors, and people most often call us about worktop and upstand sealant coming away and leaking shower tray seals in a new home.

For a place like Greenloaning, the journey and access are planned in advance. Outdoor plot mastic needs dry weather, but indoor floor and skirting joints can be sealed whatever the forecast.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Aftercare tips

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Avoid running a DIY bead over the old one
  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower
  • Avoid scourers and strong chemicals on sealant
  • Photograph failed sealant before it’s redone

Watch the joints as the house settles. Hairline gaps can open as timber and plaster dry, and they’re simple to reseal once movement has slowed.

If a shower tray or bath seal splits in the first year, look for movement. Getting it resealed properly, and any movement checked, stops it recurring.

Your questions about new build mastic in Greenloaning

Will you come out to Greenloaning?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is Greenloaning in your area for new build mastic?

Yes, Greenloaning is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

How long does new build mastic take?

Most jobs take a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Will you just run a new bead over the existing one?

No. Sealing over old sealant looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts. All the old sealant comes out before work begins.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

What do you put in the joint?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.

When is the sealant fully cured?

That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you.

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work normally takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We start by going through the snagging items or plot schedule with you.
  2. Every bit of the old builder’s sealant is cut out.
  3. We clean out the dust and grit left from the build.
  4. We prime where needed and apply a sealant suited to each joint.
  5. We tool every joint neatly and tell you when each area can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

Why act early in Greenloaning

The builder is normally the first port of call while the snagging or warranty period runs. If it’s slow, or the same joint keeps failing, a proper reseal from a specialist is the next step. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.
