New build mastic for homes and businesses in Gourock
Our new-build work comes in two parts: plot mastic for developers, and putting right failed sealant for people who’ve bought a new home. Both get the same care over preparation since hurried prep is behind a lot of new-build failures. We work on show homes, skirting & floors and windows & doors, and common reasons people get in touch are messy sealant that spoils new finishes and cracked caulk along new skirting.
Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and it settles over the first years, which shows as gaps at skirtings and floor joints. Older stone-built homes, meanwhile, often have timber floors that move with the seasons.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

What we do, step by step
At the end, we look at the finished work together. The visit itself usually takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots, depending on how much there is to do. Around Gourock, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- Each joint is checked for movement before work begins.
- We remove the failed sealant and clean the joints.
- Joints are dried and primed where the product calls for it.
- Baths are filled with water, then the new sealant is applied.
- We check every joint and leave you with the cure times.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Why act early in Gourock
A hairline gap at a skirting can wait, but water getting through can’t. Not sure whether yours can wait? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few photos. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before we start.
Why book with us
- You choose the colour before work begins
- Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels
- White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
- Colour picked to suit the job

What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder
- Damaged fittings that need replacing
- Cracking that points to a structural problem
If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Looking after it afterwards
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Raise failed sealant with the developer while you are covered
- Check bath and shower seals every few months as the house settles
- Resist patching a failed seal with a tube from the DIY shop
- Open a window or run the fan after bathing
Keep photos of the joints and any snagging correspondence with your builder. It helps if anything else comes up during the warranty period.
A seal that splits early is often a sign of movement. Getting it resealed properly, and any movement checked, stops it recurring.
What the job involves on each surface
Windows and doors
On new builds, external frame sealant can be patchy. We reseal it with a weatherproof, flexible sealant.
Plot handovers
Send us the schedule and any sealant specification for a quote. Sealant work across the plot is covered as agreed.
Your questions about new build mastic in Gourock
Do you cover smaller places like Gourock?
Yes, Gourock is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do new build mastic in Gourock?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Gourock is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.
Which products do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
How long will you be here?
Typically it takes a few hours in a single home. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we’ll tell you how long to expect.
How long before the joint can be used?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We’ll give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.
DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
What we are called out for in Gourock
Sealant is often one of the last jobs before handover. Dusty, unprimed joints are common, so the bead never bonds properly.
People normally contact us when they notice one of these:
- Cracked caulk along new skirting
- Sealant work across a run of new homes
- Frame joints opening as the plaster dries
- Messy sealant that spoils new finishes
In and around Gourock, as anywhere, good new build mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Questions to ask before you book
- Are they insured?
- How long to leave it before use

- How long the guarantee is
